It’s time to choose Your Party’s new name – and you can get involved

Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana’s new political party – Your Party – is finally gearing up to ditch its placeholder name.

It has now opened up the floor for supporters to put forward their best ideas for the party’s new title.

At last, the public will see the back of the interim ‘Your Party’. However, it’s democratic naming process can make no promises the likes of Party McPartyface won’t be a household name for decades to come.

Your Party: time to name it for real

Prospective future title reveal perils aside, it’s good news that the upcoming party has opened its naming process up to its supporters.

In an email the proto-party sent to its 800,000 backers – and counting – it stated that:

Like everything else about the party, its name will be chosen by the people who make it: the members. It should be instantly recognisable, rooted in our values, have a broad appeal and speak to the hope we carry in common.

This is your chance to help shape the identity of our movement. Share your suggestion — and tell us why you think it’s the right name for our new party.

Founding MP Sultana has already floated her preference for ‘The Left’ or ‘The Left Party’. She told Novara in her first interview after resigning from the Labour Party that the name proposal:

says what it is on the tin. That is something I will be pitching.

However, from the start, the new party has emphasised it will be democratic, and belongs to its members. It’s name will be no exception to this.

It doesn’t matter what its name is, it matters that it’s bringing people together

Supporters can throw their name suggestions in the ring via this form.

And as the Canary’s HG previously pointed out:

Corbyn and Sultana could actually dub it *Labour 2.0* and the Left would flock to it in droves.

Because the reality is, whatever it’s name, this new party is sorely needed to fight the rise of fascism, flourishing not just under far right Nigel Farage and Reform, but inside Keir Starmer’s genocide-abetting, and migrant hostile Labour Party government as well.

An Ipsos poll has already indicated that one in five Britons would consider voting for the new party. It shows the enormous appetite for a genuine socialist political alternative.

The yet unnamed and unformed political party looks set to shake up the system. To help it continue building momentum in the lead up to its inaugural conference, it has now also launched a number of social media accounts. You can now follow it on X, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook.
