Donald Trump just told the wildest lie of his career yet

Donald Trump has a reputation for being something of a ‘liar, liar pants on fire‘. With his latest untruth, the blaze has spread from his trousers to kickstart a wildfire that rivals the infernos which swept through LA:

One of the most dangerous issues we have to deal with as a nation is that Trump and his regime lie about every single thing

Donald Trump: 100% Pinocchio

The event Donald Trump was responding to was the extrajudicial murder of alleged drug traffickers. As HG reported for the Canary:

Donald Trump ordered a strike against suspected drug traffickers in international waters, murdering 11 people.

HG added:

In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed the strike targeted 11 “narcoterrorists”, who were a part of a Venezuelan gang, Tren de Aragua.

They were apparently transporting illegal drugs to the US.

But social media users pointed out, suspected drug traffickers have the right to a fair trial.

In the video above, a journalist notes that Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro said America’s extrajudicial killing of suspected drug runners was illegal. The journalist asks Trump if he’s worried Maduro might “escalate something” (a bit rich given America’s history of unwarranted escalation).

Trump responded with the following (emphasis added):

What’s illegal are the drugs that were on the boat, and the drugs that are being sent into our country, and the fact that 300 million people died last year from drugs.

300 million.

The population of America today is 347 million, or is it? Maybe it’s only 47 million; if so, bad news for their workforce – they just lost six sevenths of their workers.

Maybe 347 million is correct, and there were 647 million Americans last year. If that’s the case, the American economy must be propped up by the funeral business, which presumably made several trillion dollars last year on the back of the cocaine armageddon.

300 million!

Let’s be fair to Donald Trump and assume he meant ‘300 million deaths globally’. If that’s the case, drugs will have killed the entire global population by 2050 if people keep enjoying drugs at the same rate.

300 fucking million.

Looking into it, the World Health Organization puts the number of “annual deaths due to alcohol and drug use” at 3 million, with most of them attributed to alcohol. If you’re anything like me, you’re thinking: ‘Okay – so he was nearly right – both those numbers have a 3 in them‘. We have to remind ourselves that this isn’t a toddler; this is the president of the most powerful country in the world, and he multiplied the actual figure by 100% to justify an extrajudicial massacre.

300 million isn’t just higher than the number of people who died of drug-related causes in 2024; it’s five times more than the number of people who died in 2024 altogether.

As Our World in Data report:

62 million people died in 2024.

I’d say that drug dealing isn’t a viable business if it’s on track to kill all its customers before the end of the century, but that would be ignoring the existence of the oil industry.

People

A closing thought is that if it’s legal to kill individuals for possessing drugs, Donald Trump better watch out, because reports suggest he’s entertained drug enthusiasts in the White House:

I love how they had to couch the whole thing carefully to avoid getting sued. “it’s unclear whether Mr. Musk was taking drugs when he became a fixture at the White House…” Ya think?

Obviously we can’t prove that Musk was on drugs in the videos above, but apparently that doesn’t matter.
