Chaotic Kent Council loses yet another Reform councillor

Reform UK have had a tough time of it since the May elections. Of all the new Reform councils, Kent has had perhaps the most issues, and things are only looking worse this morning, with yet another councillor leaving:

Another Reform loss at Kent County Council as Izzy Kemp now sits as an independent. Just hours before the full council meets at 10am.

Details yet unclear if she is suspended or expelled.

It takes Reforms majority down from 57 to 48.

While it’s unclear if Kemp jumped or was pushed, it’s looking more and more like Reform Kent is a sinking ship.

Chaos with Nigel Farage and Reform

Infamously, Kent had to suspend four Reform councillors after a “chaotic meeting was leaked”. As Joe Glenton wrote for the Canary:

A spokesperson for the far-right party said they’d brought Reform UK into disrepute.

Which is quite a gallant argument given Reform UK didn’t have much repute to start with. Anyway, here’s a group of dysregulated middle-aged toddlers having an incredibly puerile row:

More recently, Kent Council drew criticism for telling a local parish they couldn’t put Christmas lights up because they had flags on them (flags which went up as part of the current flag mania sweeping the UK):

Looks like Tommy the Sniff and his band of miscreants have succeeded where mythical Muslim complainers have failed.
Christmas is cancelled in Kent. Because flags. https://t.co/Y9MMNpFE36

One resident of the parish responded to this state of affairs by stating:

This is why we are falling so behind as a country in the global market.

As reported by ITV, Kent Council are set to have a meeting at 10:00 today, and it’s speculated leader Linden Kemkaran could face a confidence vote. Given everything that’s happened, it’s easy to see why people may be losing confidence:

If Linden Kemkaran doesn’t quit as Leader of Reform UK Kent, @reformparty_uk is going to be seen as a failure.

Hi @Nigel_Farage can you tell us about the councils you now run, some on this list:

Kent: 26.7%
Lincolnshire: 26.7%
Lancashire: 26.7%
Durham: 26.7%
Warwickshire: 26.7%
Worcestershire: 26.7%
Leicestershire: 26.7% https://t.co/dBERbllIoX

On the plus side for Reform Kent, three of the councillors they booted out still support them, as they stated here:

We declare our continued support for Reform UK and its leadership both National and Local.

We will continue to operate in line with our pledges to the electorate.

We have seen one of the other expelled KCC Members recently made a statement to the press.

We disassociate ourselves from this as it doesn’t represent us or our views.

So that’s good, we suppose?

They can’t hold their party together, but they are at least supporting one another through their never-ending failures.

Death by a thousand cuts

The Reform Exposed Twitter account has provided a full list of all those who have left the party since May (click ‘show more’ to see all of them).

At this pace, Reform could end up losing control of several councils by virtue of no longer having any councillors.

We hope this isn’t a sign of what things will be like if Reform are in government, because hopefully Nigel Farage’s party implodes before then.
