Racists reflexively blame ‘flytip mountain’ on Black and Brown people

As reported by the BBC, a group of as-yet unidentified criminals “have dumped a “grotesque” mountain of waste in a field in Oxfordshire“. Most people will look at the situation and think ‘that’s bad – people shouldn’t be fly-tipping giant heaps of rubbish in Kidlington‘. The racists who spend all day obsessively getting mad at Black and Brown people, however, immediately assumed it was the fault of Black and Brown people:

🚨RIVER CHERWELL IN OXFORD HAS BECOME SUPERDUMP

A 20 ft deep, 500 ft long mound of rubbish has been dumped into the River Cherwell in Oxfordshire.

Oxfordshire racists — rivers of duds

You’ll note that the tweet above suggests the rubbish has been dumped into the River Cherwell. We see how a person would think this given the way it looks, but it’s actually in a field next to the river. This, of course, is what happens when you look at pictures on Twitter and immediately invent stories to explain what you’re seeing.

To be fair, while the waste isn’t in the river, the situation is still very bad. Here’s what the BBC said:

The “environmental catastrophe unfolding in plain sight” is up to 150m (490ft) long and 6m (20ft) high and has appeared on a site between the River Cherwell and the A34 near Kidlington.

Calum Miller, Liberal Democrat MP for Bicester and Woodstock, has raised the issue in Parliament, saying it was “threatening an environmental disaster”.

He also said Cherwell District Council had estimated the cost of removing the waste would be greater than its entire annual budget.

MP Miller added:

“criminal gangs are dumping waste on this scale” across the country and it will take government intervention before pollutants “leech out” into local rivers.

Who are these gangs? In this instance, it’s unclear, but there have been convictions against others in the past, as the Environment Agency reported:

On 18 July, Marcus Hughes, 53, and Richard Hopkinson, 52, attended a hearing at Birmingham Crown Court where they pleaded guilty to various environmental, company and fraud offences. On 26 July, Robert McDonagh, 51, attended a hearing at the same court where he too pleaded guilty to environmental, company and fraud offences.

The article doesn’t make clear which part of India Hughes, Hopkinson, and McDonagh are from, but don’t worry, we’ll sure one of these guys will be happy to make something up for you:

You’d be forgiven for thinking this was a river somewhere in India, however it’s the river Cherwell near Oxford.

We’re turning into a third world country.

Head banging

This latest story is an example of how toxic the debate has become. We’re sure most people agree that dumping mountains of waste in the countryside is bad, but instead of talking about actual issues, we have to react to the paranoid fantasies of losers, deadbeats, and social media barons:

Civil war in Britain is inevitable.

Just a question of when. https://t.co/SpmcPkziZr
