The Green Party is celebrating another milestone, with their party membership hitting 170,000 members. As leader Zack Polanski said, this means over 100,000 people have joined the party since he became leader:
Since I was elected leader of the Green Party, 100,000 new people have joined.
In just over two months:
170,000 people ready to make hope normal again.
This is only the beginning.https://t.co/0qbagSwgNX

Green Party is still growing…
On 28 October, we reported that the Green Party had hit 150,000 members. It’s taken nearly a month for them to hit 170,000 members, which means two things:
- The pace at which they’re taking on new members has admittedly slowed.
- They’re still welcoming members at a pace which the other parties can only dream of.
When it comes to members, we know that Labour are actually experiencing the opposite of what the Greens are. This is exemplified by all the former members who react to every Green announcement:
After a decade of membership (including a year working for @BrentLabour) I’ve left the Labour Party and joined the Greens.
The Labour Party has never been a socialist party, but now it isn’t even a party for socialists to organise in. We need to move on and let it die. https://t.co/ScCyN7dQlZ

The Green Party is also doing what the establishment would tell you is impossible, and that’s motivating young voters:
The Green Party has gained 100,000 members in less than 3 months! 🎉
Over 20,000 of our new members are Young Greens 💚
Huge congratulations to all involved 👏
Let’s take this momentum & change our country for the better ✊ https://t.co/b8tOmwDBSj

It’s important to remember that membership isn’t just an indicator of support; it’s a sign that membership fees are flowing into the party and that door knockers are joining the ground operation. This gives the Greens the power to organise campaigns and reach voters, which in turn gives them the power to win elections, which in turn makes them more attractive to new members.
In other words, it’s an exciting time to be a Green:
It’s definitely slowed down compared to the conference session but 200k by the end of the year is definitely possible if the rate between 150k and 170k continues at 20k members every 3 weeks or so https://t.co/bgYvl0rl6R

Your Party
It isn’t just the Green Party who’ve experienced sudden growth, of course, with Your Party standing at 50,000 members. While Your Party has certainly been rocked by controversies and misfires, it’s also obvious that the people who have signed up have done so because they want to fight for a socialist future:
There are 50,000 members, the most for a socialist party in decades.
Stop wetting the bed at every minor news story ffs. https://t.co/YiEFezRCd9

We imagine that a lot of the new members probably aren’t on Twitter, and as such they’re not privy to the weekly pronouncements of Your Party’s demise (not to denounce those who are privy, of course, as we understand these people are only so invested because they care).
If there’s a will to succeed among Your Party’s tens of thousands of members, anyway, there’s no doubt there can be a way. And as Curtis Daly notes, whichever way you look at it, we’re certainly seeing that there’s a hunger for new politics among the British electorate:
170k for the Greens, 50k for Your Party. 230k people joining left-wing organisations.
The left isn’t done just yet https://t.co/39qfAo4Ntr
