Wes Streeting comes for Clive Lewis (again) and looks like a fool – again

Sick of Your Party infighting? Well, good news, there’s plenty of good old Labour infighting too! Amidst rumours that Keir Starmer was facing leadership challenges, that definitely had nothing to do with Wes Streeting, a Labour MP weighed in to offer an alternative.

Lewis wants Labour reform

Clive Lewis was the first Labour MP to publicly call for Starmer to go last week. His alternative was that the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, should be given a seat in the Commons so he could run against him. At the time, it was unclear where this seat would magically come from, but Lewis gave us an answer for that yesterday. As Skwawkbox reported yesterday, Lewis said:

It’s a question I’ve asked myself, and I’d have to obviously consult with my wife as well and family, but do you know what, if I’m going to sit here and say country before party, party before personal ambition, then yes, I have to say yes, don’t I?

Streeting gets his knickers in a twist

The rebuff at this came from none other than Streeting, who, remember, has definitely no interest in being Prime Minister

Reacting live on LBC, Streeting said:

“It’s a peculiar thing for him to say, it’s like telling his constituents: ‘I’m not interested in being your MP.’”

Lewis is having none of Streeting’s bullshit

However, Lewis wasn’t having that. He accused Streeting of being “self-serving”:

The authoritarian right is an existential threat. We need the best chance of turning this around.

That’s Andy, not Wes

Of course he finds it peculiar.
Self-sacrifice, hypothetical or not, is foreign to the self-serving.

I love my city and my constituents.

But the authoritarian right is an existential threat. We need the best chance of turning this around.

That’s Andy, not Wes https://t.co/RYHNtF89gy

Wes Streeting is a jumped-up little turd, pass it on

As political commentator Dan Hodges pointed out, Streeting is doing exactly the same thing that he accused others of doing to him last week, but it backfired:

Having complained about being the subject of a drive-by last week, Wes Streeting carries out a drive-by on Clive Lewis. Who then carries out a drive-by in return. The Labour Party are heading for the mattresses… https://t.co/3CjeFHiSCE

However, this isn’t the first time Streeting has tried to come for Lewis, and once again Wes has been shown up:

A jumped up turd indeed. https://t.co/Gd0d4TF1x7 pic.twitter.com/oBWi9v9qff

Keep fighting lads, it’s all working in Zack’s favour

The infighting in Labour is definitely far from over, with the Greens looking more and more like the better option every day. In fact, voting intention in Lewis’s own constituency shows that if he did vacate the seat for Burnham, the Greens would take it instead. Regardless, Streeting should definitely be called a turd more often.
