Bromley Stand Up to Racism has called a counter-demo against another anti-migrant protest the far right is planning outside a local hotel.

Bromley to stand against far right anti-migrant protests – again

Far right Great British National Protest has called a protest outside TLK Apartment Hotels in Orpington for Friday 22 August. This will be the third such protest locally and follows a wave of anti-asylum protests nationally.

So, Bromley Stand Up to Racism has called a counter-protest to oppose it at 6pm.

Far right figures and groups have been organising the vile protests across the country. A recent High Court ruling instructing the government to cease housing asylum seekers at the Bell Hotel, Epping, has only emboldened them further.

Conservative politicians have showed up at these demonstrations in the company of well-known hardened fascists. Robert Jenrick attended a demonstration in Epping. Also present was notorious fascist Eddie Butler. Butler was a founder of Nazi terror group Combat 18.

Former home secretary Suella Braverman, current Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch, and Reform leader Nigel Farage have also encouraged people to take to the streets to rally against asylum accommodation. Farage has encouraged local authorities to follow Epping District Council’s legal challenge.

Far right activist and conspiracy theorist spearheading the protests

Richard Donaldson is the figure behind the protest outside TLK Apartment Hotels in Orpington. He is an ex-army soldier who lives in Cheshire. Donaldson is a far right online activist and conspiracy theorist.

Donaldson has used the safety of women and girls as a disingenuous pretext for his rancid racism. He has repeatedly taken to social media to support white British men accused of sexual misconduct and rape. He has praised arch misogynist Donald Trump and labelled former presidential candidate Kamala Harris a ‘slut’.

Marc Peacock of Stand Up to Racism said:

Continued hostility to asylum seekers is poison in the heart of our racially diverse community. It will not address the undoubted need and neglect in areas like the Crays and less affluent parts of Bromley. We utterly reject the far right politics of fear and division.

Co-founder of Bromley and Croydon Disabled People Against the Cuts (DPAC) Paula Peters said:

The naked hatred, racism and Islamophobia towards marginalised groups is frightening. As disabled people, we know what it’s like to be oppressed, marginalised, and targeted, and be on the receiving end of hate crime. We send solidarity to everyone on the counter demo on Friday.
